School: Aalto University
Course: The Wood Program
Location: Espoo, Finland
Course dates: September 2025 to June 2026
Application deadline: 31 March 2025

The Wood Program at Aalto University challenges students to experiment with wood and to study wood architecture and industrial construction through a hands-on, one-year program.

The academic year includes lectures, excursions, design and build assignments, culminating in an experimental wooden building to be built during the spring semester.

The curriculum is intended for architects, engineers and other students with a background in design and a strong interest in wood.

Applicants with equivalent professional experience or three years of study may also be considered.

The Wood Program is a nine-month intensive tuition fee-based diploma program. The studies are officially registered and transferable, providing 60 ECTS.

The program is run by the chair of Wood Architecture at Aalto University. Students join this course on a full-time basis in an academic year from early September until late May.

In our studio, we use drawings and models to communicate our ideas and design. We do not require a language certificate, but students must be able to follow courses, participate in discussions and express themselves orally and in writing in English.

This program will give you the valuable knowledge and practical experience you need in the field of wood architecture.
