Besler & Sons launches speckled terrazzo home accessories
Flecks of coloured glass and marble chips pattern these terrazzo objects for the home by Los Angeles studio Besler & Sons.
The set of Props features four different shapes: The Classic Wedge, The Personal Pan Pizza, The Soupcan and The Snubnose Wedge.

They can be used as bookends, doorstops, paperweights and serving platters, or as decorative pieces in a home or office.
Besler & Sons, founded by husband-and-wife Erin and Ian Besler, handmade each piece by adding the glass and marble chips to a cement mixture, then casting it in moulds.

After curing overnight, the hardened terrazzo is wet-ground and polished to expose the colourful pieces.
Terrazzo has been used for centuries as a construction and finish material in buildings – most commonly flooring, thanks to its durability.

Other recent applications have included a camouflaged furniture installation by Max Lamb and inside a Singapore restaurant by Barber and Osgerby's Universal Design Studio.
Besler & Sons has taken a similar approach to updating the material, but on a smaller scale.

"This limited-run collection takes an updated view on that process to create a series of elegant, minimal objects for your home or office," Besler & Sons said.
Base hues for the geometric objects – white, pink and lilac – were chosen to reference elements of Downtown Los Angeles, like the storefronts of the Jewellery District and the classic movie theatre entryways.

"The colour palette of the terrazzo collection draws on the elegant, understated tones that capture the iconic, sun-drenched splendour of the Pacific coast," said the designers.
The Beslers recently moved from Chicago to LA, which is a growing hub for architects and designers.
Their Props are currently available from the city's MOCA Store on Grand Avenue and at the Craft and Folk Art Museum Shop.
